Nestled amidst the tranquil countryside of Chelwood, Somerset, Lady Farm Gardens exude an enchanting aura that captivates the imagination. The gardens, meticulously crafted by Judy Pearce over two decades, are a testament to her unwavering passion for horticulture. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the stately presence of buxus sempervirens topiary, which frames the original gardens surrounding the house with a sense of grandeur.

The harmonious interplay of perennials creates a vibrant tapestry throughout the seasons. Echinops ritro's striking sapphire flowers dance alongside the golden orbs of Lysimachia Punctata, while the plush purple foliage of Phlomis russeliana adds a touch of drama. Epimedium, Anemone, and Zantedeschia weave their delicate charms into the borders.

Multiple varieties of Verbascum, Lupinus, Penstemon, lavender, Geranium, Phlox, Buddleia, and Filipendula lend remarkable diversity to the garden's color palette.

These perennials are interspersed with a wide range of ornamental grasses, such as miscanthus sinensis, Stipa gigantea, and Stipa tenuissima, creating a captivating dance of textures under the summer sun.

In the damp shade of the lower lake, ornamental grasses like Acorus Variegatus, Carex divulsa, Carex elata Aurea, and Calamagrostis brachytricha mingle with a chorus of perennials, adding a serene touch to the setting.

The garden's arboreal canopy provides a majestic framework, with the silvery-blue hues of Salix cinerea, Pyrus calleryana, and pyrus salicifolia pendula contrasting with the golden brilliance of Catalpa bignonioides 'Aurea', Tilia x europaea 'Golden Sunset', and Cornus Aurea.

Throughout the garden, carefully placed sculptures and statuary whisper tales of a bygone era, enhancing the enchanting atmosphere. Lady Farm Gardens is a testament to the transformative power of vision and the dedication of its creators, offering an idyllic escape into a realm of horticultural beauty.

The garden's design is a captivating tapestry of diverse styles, blending the wild beauty of a prairie with the structured elegance of a steppe, all seamlessly interwoven with the classic charm of a cottage garden and the vibrant energy of a wildflower meadow.

This harmonious blend is further enhanced by the unexpected discovery of spring water, which has given rise to stunning lakes, a dramatic ravine, and a cascading waterfall. These natural features serve as inspiration for the innovative planting scheme, resulting in a kaleidoscope of color that unfolds throughout the year.

The lakes, a tranquil haven for resident swans, reflect the vibrant hues of the surrounding vegetation, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The swooping landscape, a tapestry of rolling hills and gentle slopes, becomes the perfect extension of the farm, a natural canvas upon which the beauty of both wild and cultivated life intertwines.

The close proximity to the farm allows for a seamless transition between the ordered world and the untamed wilderness beyond. This naturalism finds expression in the planting, a harmonious blend of formal gardens and informal meadows. Classic climbers like wisteria, Clematis, and roses cascade down walls, their vibrant blooms adding a touch of romanticism.

Meanwhile, naturalised species like Alchemilla mollis, Erigeron karvinskianus, and Leucanthemum vulgare weave their way through the landscape, creating a tapestry of delicate blooms that catch the eye with their vibrant colors and graceful forms. These flowers, found throughout the garden, blend seamlessly with the cultivated beauty of the gardens, showcasing the inherent harmony between nature's wildness and human cultivation.

As we stand amidst this verdant paradise in Somerset, we are reminded that the garden is only just beginning its summer display, promising many more weeks of breathtaking colour and captivating beauty. Each season will reveal new layers of vibrant hues, transforming the landscape into a constantly evolving masterpiece.
